Strengthening the foundation of Resilient Health Systems

The Alliance for Primary Health Care in the Americas

June 25, 2024

Embassy of Brazil
Washington DC

Event Summary

Expanding PHC scales capacity in early detection and notification of disease outbreak within communities, constituting the first wall of defense and response in emergency situations. The transformational changes needed to embed resilience within societies and national health systems with a strong PHC foundation require the sustained commitment of countries and the international community in pursuing a common vision, but also in enabling a path towards reaching these changes.

This special Embassy Series Event highlights opportunities for renewed and expanded Primary Health Care (PHC) through novel strategic partnerships between financial and public health organizations such as the Alliance for Primary Health Care in the Americas of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank). Established in December of 2023, the Alliance is already active in several countries in the Region, working hand in hand with government authorities to advance national health planning based on PHC, and to develop quality investments plans to this end.
