Ross, K.M., Bernabeo, E.
Submitted: January, 2014

The authors discuss the context of rules and principles when there is conflict in professional obligations. The authors argue that dual agency in medical professionalism cannot be addressed through role morality, prioritization and specification. Also discussed are the professional code in the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Physician Charter, professional challenges in balancing physician obligations and the professional values and beliefs of physicians.
