Development of a professionalism committee approach to address unprofessional medical staff behavior at an academic medical center

The 3 large teaching hospitals within Univ Pennsylvania HS has a Professionalism Committee that reports to its respective Medical Executive Committee. The effort is made to identify behavioral health issues in unprofessional behavior early (as opposed to physical, cognitive, or systems issues) because of the PC chair’s professional training and expertise. Summary of contacts between 2009 – 2012 (referrals, management consults, interview screening, and the need for general advice).
